Bit of advice please people? used our Rapido pop top caravan for the first time last weekend, brilliant i love it! it's not new (about 20 year old) and there are a couple of issues here and there but it rained all weekend and we didn't get wet so i'm happy!
Now, the awning that came with the van (a freebie extra) is a different matter, it would make an excellent Sieve!! all the seams leak and a number of large patches on the roof, so i wonder what is the best way to re-waterproof it? it is full awning made of the heavy canvas type material, there is a label on it saying "Ten Cate" but no brand name. We have got it cleaned up as it looked like it had spent years rolled up and shoved in the gas locker of the van.
so is it best to use a spray type or can we get a paint on type wateproofing and which is the best brand?.
have done seams in tent before so i'm confident i can do the same with an awning.
any suggestions would be helpful cheers
I used Fabsil and a garden hand sprayer.I bought a 1tre of Fabsil and put it in a garden hand sprayer. Then on a dry day hung the awning up on the washing line and sprayed the fabsil on taking care that the section i was doing looked "Wet".It takes about half an hour to dry.
If it is canvas and hasn't been used for some time it may just have needed to be 'weathered' in order to become waterproof again. I would be inclined to erect it again if you can, spray water on it and see if it is still leaking before wasting money on Fabsil.
If it is a synthetic material and leaking through the actual surface of the material it has probably reached the end of it's useful life and Fabsil may not help.
