I was closing the water pump inlet cover this morning on my 2007 Swift Conqueror when it snapped off !!!
Can you tell me what I need to buy and what does it entail to replace it or is it the job for a caravan service yard !!!
The cover cannot be repaired so you need to replace with a complete new water pump inlet housing which incorporates the hinged cover plate. If you can do DIY jobs it's quite an easy job to do as it involves both manual work and a little electrical work.
Firstly, you need to obtain the new part and the most probable tools you need are a screwdriver and pliers but you also need to seal the housing prior to refitting.
The housing usually has 4 fixing screws on the outside which need to be removed and on the inside will be two electrical wires that are connected to the water pressure switch. You have to remove the two wires with the pliers but note which way they are connected as you will have to replace the connectors exactly the same way round.
When you have removed the wires and housing you need some white spirit to remove any old sealant first but it has to be 100% clean to avoid any water ingress. When it's clean you then need to polish the surrounding area to remove any white spirit otherwise the sealant won't adhere to the surface.
You then have to refit the new housing to which you have to apply the correct sealant first for the mating joint and tighten the screws equally on opposite sides to maintain a perfect visual finish then when completed just re-connect the two wires on the reverse side from inside the caravan. Final task is to conduct the test to see if the water pump is working and delivering water from the barrel to the system.
Any excess sealant around the joint can be carefully removed with a plastic tool and finall wiped clean with white spirit for a professional finish.
The sealant I have used is called 'Seamseal CV' but there are other brands such as 'Sikaflex' but you have to obtain the correct number as there are different applications but you will also need a trigger gun that the tube fits in to which is longer than the average DIY trigger guns for domestic uses.
Regarding birdman101's post, I didn't know you could actually buy the hinges and cover independently otherwise my advice would have been completely different as replacing the cover and hinge will also be be a lot cheaper too. However, there are two different colours which are white and ivory so make sure you buy the right colour cover if buying online.
It's amazing what you can learn from this forum but please accept my apology for giving the wrong advice. Well done birdman.

Just to confuse things further, could you let us know exactly which inlet housing you have on the van as it could in fact be one of several different types.
