Hi all,

I'm new here and to the world
World of caravans so be careful with me he he....

I bought a lunar Jupiter recent
ly with 2 patches of spongy wall board (front right and rear right).... I'm going to replace them with 6 mm ply and 1 x 0.5 batons is this the best material to do it with and should it be quite a simple time consuming job for a competent diyer.?

I was going to fix the leak (which I presume is the awning rail (spongy wall front right and rear right but not in between) and dry the rest out but is it just worth replacing? As it's only metal foam latts and ply?

When you strip it back at the spongey areas, you should find where the leak is coming from.
I was frightened to death too when we were advised we had damp. I was reduced to tears. Then I found this site.
I was suprised at how easy our damp was to repair, just time consuming - if it hadn't been for cleaning up our awning rail (we had to cut it off as was done with a pu sealant and mastic) and of course the drying out, it was actually only a couple of days work.
We used matching wallboard from O'Leary's and the result was very good.

We didn't have much spongeyness but it was pointed out to us that the pimples on the wallboard and bubbling paint on the outside was a classic sign. We were gutted as quoted £1500 for a professional fix - we only paid £2000 for it and used all our savings.
Cost us £123 to fix it ourselves and very pleased with the results.
It may look bad when you strip back but methodical replacement of all rotting timbers will sort it out. Don't do to much at once, as if just left with the Alu skin, it'll flap about and damage.

I suggest you do a search in this section of the forum using the word "damp" and you can read loads of stories from fellow members - many of us in the same boat/damp caravan!!!

Might be an idea to check the inside first. We sealed last as the awning rail was screwed into some of the batons that were rotten and needed removing.
