We overwintered our Elddis Wisp at the house witha 240v supply connected to power a small oil filled heater to combat damp. I did notice anytime I was in the van during this time that the battery indicator was getting lower. My assumption was that while a mains supply was fitted, the battery would be kept charged.

While we were away for Easter we noticed that any 12v appliance would dip the needle into the red causing some concern. So to my questions: -

(i) What runs from the 12v supply ?
(ii) Is there a battery charger fitted to the van somewhere that could trip ?
(iii) Are the leisure batteries wet type and in need of topping up ?

Many thanks

Dont know much about Eldiss's but usually some internal lighting and possibly your fridge (if fitted) will be attached to your 12v supply. Leisure batteries are usually of the wet type and can be topped up using de-ionised water from Halfords. They also sell numerous battery chargers that could easily wired into your van, so you can charge up whilst you camp connected to a 240v electric hook up.

Hiya'

Just about all caravans have a fixed battery charger that comes on automatically when you hook up to the electric....but' they are not of the strength of a normal car charger and will only keep a battery topped up providing the battery is fully charged in the first place.  Your Elddis hand book will probably tell you to take the battery off the van now and again and charge using an ordinary car type charger like the type you can buy from most motor accessory shops for a few quid. So, before you start shelling out for a new battery I would try charging your old one from an independant charger.  If you can get it topped up you might find that the caravan charger will help keep it there.  Good Luck.

Regards, Les.
