Hi. I have just got my first caravan a 20 year old beauty! Great condition but could do with the tatty threaded carpet replacing. Does anyone have any recommendations on what may be best to use? Easiest to fit as I will be doing this myself. Thanks
You could try carpet tiles. They are fairly cheap depending on the quality and are easy to lay and cut around corners. Certainly wouldn't take many tiles for the average caravan and any that get stained or worn can be replaced individually. Stick down with double sided carpet tape.
Try to avoid foam backed or the new type of white backing ,if you can get a off cut of good quality Axminster or Wilton you will find it far easier to cut .and if you measure it accurately and ask nicely in the carpet shop they might even cut it to size for you .
I took my van to local carpet shop and parked up in his yard and bought an off cut for £10 and he fitted it for £20 with only one joint which went under the bathroom cabinet and on the unused side of the loo. The off cut was brown with mini square fawn pattern which matched upholstery colours and fawn curtains whole job only took 40 minutes yes it was felt backed but van was warmer in cold weather and The fitter was careful not to block any gas drop out vents.
I've just bought a 14 year old caravan with a tatty dirty carpet and I bought an off cut from carpet right but I've decided to just carpet around front seating coming down as far as kitchen area then putting lino off the roll in the kitchen area through into the end bathroom and putting a threshold bar between carpet and lino. With the right tools I've found the job reasonably easy. I used the old carpet as a template to cut around.
I paid for mine 50£ but it was a choice of a easy to clean, but thick matching dark brown carpet.
Did it myself on a rainy Sunday. 2 hours including the old one out.
The better half really likes it as it is thicker as the one we have in the house. Lol
Well some lixuxs as standart when on holiday.
Just been away in it and it was lovely and warm.
Usualy the dogs sleep in the bed, but they chooses the carpet, most be softer then the bed. Ha ha
Did also the doors and Cubboards inside the van with vinil to match everything as new together.
All it needs now is the new style sun blinds but I find away to do this as well.
