Dometic 8550 fridge. The light inside the fridge has stopped working when the door is opened. I dont think it is the bulb as for a while it was an intermittent fault but now it is not working at all. I cannot see what triggers the light to come on. Trev

If it was an intermittent fault at first it could well be the bulb as they can fail like that so bulb is first thing to check.

I have removed the LED light assembly and checked the bulbs and they are working, so the fault is somewhere else. Cannot se what triggers the light to go on and off.

If I think correctly there's a magnet in the top of the door normally about 3 to 6 inches in from the right when you look at the front. If you have a magnet move it over the top and you'll feel where it is. Like wise there's a magnet in the housing with the switches. They control the light inside the fridge, either the door has dropped slightly or one if the magnets have moved and there not quite inline anymore.

The light is controlled by a magnet within the door, as suggested. The magnet operates a reed switch within the cabinet of the fridge and it's possible the switch has become faulty and remains permanently open. If a magnet had moved away from the switch, the light would be on permanently.

If you arm yourself with the full model details from the label within the appliance, then have a look at Leisure Shop Direct, you should be able to track down an exploded parts diagram that will help you locate the reed switch.

Although the battery operated light is a good idea on paper, as the fridge drops the temperature , so will the efficiency of the battery ( any battery ) .... Cold winter mornings , starting the car 🤔
