Hi,

After seeing the very good easy to follow instructions and pic on how to repair damp caravans, I  took the bull by the horns and have started fixing mine.  All going well so far !!!!!.  But.... I can't find any fablon or wallpaper remotely like the rest of the caravan. Any ideas where I can look.

Thanks

 Kaz

Hi Kaz,

I'm in the same boat, I took my bull by the horns but the horns appear to extend much further than I thought. I visited my local caravan shop and bought a sheet of vinyl covered plywood 7'x 4'  33 Euros Its not a perfect match but is very close, I also kept all the rotten panels I removed, the plan is to remove the vinyl from the rotten plywood and stick it on over the new vinyl if the difference is noticable. (I removed a 6'x6' panel and most of it was perfect) The biggest pain in the bottom was removing the Awning rails (drill out 13 rusty screws, why dont they use stainless?) My local caravan dealer advised me to use the mastic from the tube, he doesnt have any faith in the mastic on the roll.

If I can be of any assistance give me a shout,

Thanks for your replys...

Very good idea keeping the vinyl from the original panels... That was my idea to until the husband tried to help!!!!  I have another area to do, all being well, and will attemped to do this...... Did'nt have any trouble with awning rails, the wood was so rotten behind I took it all out and then bashed the nails with a hammer which loosened them and I was thankfully able to unscrew them..... But don't try that at home !!!!!!!!  P.s This is my first ever attemped at DIY...Have'nt had any problems pulling it apart.. But now for the difficult bit....putting it back together!

Hi

If your after Fablon have you had a look in Wilkinsons?  I think they have stores all over the UK and when I was in there the other day they seemed to have a good selection of designs - probably be a lot cheaper than B & Q too.

Good luck

Hi all , i repaired my damp caravan , and can say for sure ( after using it ) Fablon is not very good at all , i will try anything else next time , but not Fablon .

It didn't stay stuck no matter what i tried , and when we went away in the caravan , the Fablon attracted huge amounts of condensation ( it was running down the wall big time ) there was so much i could have filled a bucket.

Hi Folks, Re wallpaper for finishing damp repairs, find yourself a Dulux trade outlet, they should have sample books of vinyl paper up to 52" wide, you can usually find a close enough match, if you use 3mm ply to renew the walls in your van, once fitted mix up some PVA an a small amount of white emulsion and apply and thin coat and let dry, once dry use PVA to apply the paper .

Hi all

as most of you know I have been renovating my caravan and its almost done now too.

we found B&Q was a great place to go paper shopping , we were able to get a very nice vinyl paper for it, mind you we have decided to redecorate the whole van.

good to see more and more people are doing their own repairs.
