What are the experience's of the good folks on here (when the unfortunate turn of events occurs)getting someone local here in NI to conduct a survey/provide estimate as to the cost of repairs so that you may make good either via ( Insurance company) or personal payment, should the cost amount to a acceptable sum.
Due to a accident and subsequent need to chase a person who purports to be a caravan repairer I had to wait three months for a simple quote, so that I can give my Insurer a "ballpark" figure so they can decide on which action to pursue next to remedy my situation.
However I did not factor the possibility of being messed around by a locally (NI), seemingly reputable ( until my constant requesting and pursuance for a general quote) caravan repairer, this was met with an initial quote upon calling him - while driving his van and failing to get back to me after several voice messages (polite may I add!), for a general figure as the insurance company had been pressing me on to me on several occasions, at that point, his quote while driving , "Ahh yes £1100.00 for two side windows, and I haven't a price for the other repairs require".
Now heading into 4 months later and still waiting on this person getting back to me, I have just been informed (By Gary)this week, he cant get the windows for my caravan as they are obsolete, and he provided me with a link for a website suggesting I go there; so I did and searched here, their and elsewhere, and hey presto in 20 mins I have sourced replacement windows that the insurance company are happy to pay for, and also an awning rail that the "caravan repairer!!" said was obsolete.
Cheers Gary for nothing, My van will be repaired and all you have cost me is time, time that I could have been away using my caravan with my family, so if you need a repair to your caravan, avoid this guy, absolute let down.
