Hi all,

some of my prev postings have been about the van fridge not working or cooling etc. in the end we scrapped it after it was checked out and considered doomed. we are using a counter top fridge in the awning.. however I have now got the exact same model (RM4230)in a lot better nick, for free... In short I'm not keen on using on gas anymore so want to use it only on 240V ...   Question - can I use the existing 240 cable and simply put a standard plug on it in order to use it / test it or does it need re-wiring and all that polava!, Also, if it doesn't work on 240v but there is refrigerant still sloshing around what is the most likely cause of the fault ??? thanks to anyone who can help.

You can connect a 240V cable with L, N and Earth for testing purposes,. that's what we do.

Bear in mind that it can take an absorption fridge some hours before it starts to show cooling inside.

Make sure you don't connect to the 12V terminal block!

sorry but the 240 lead should already have a standard plug on it??? Or are you saying that it is fitted with a continental 2pin plug? in which case you can fit a normal uk 3 pin plug

'Old chap' it's a replacement van fridge so doesn't come with a plug , it was previously already wired into the Van circuitry to use when we hook up to EHU .

sorry I was assuming it was a 3 way camping fridge

how ever on my caravan the 240 supply lead was fitted with a standard uk 3 pin plug & plugged into a standard uk power point fitted in the fridge bay

Put a plug on it and leave it a couple of hours to start cooling, if it doesn't it's probably the 240v heating element that needs replacing. Easy to get hold of and easy to do.
