Bought a 12v telly for van, After battery had been fully charged I would turn tv and immediatly needle on caravan meter would go into red and tv would work for about 30mins I would check battery and it was showing 12.6 volts . So as I have a caravan mover fitted I thought it might be zapping the battery quickly so bought another battery (110 amp) . Fitted it , went out last weekend and exactly the same would happen, Help on this matter would be gratefully received
Hi, on your tv there should be a rating plate/sticker that will tell you amps watts volts etc. from this you can see what power consumption is. I suspect your tv needs a fully charged battery to work and is shutting down once top is taken off the batteries charge.
Ok, could this be part of problem. The tv came with a powerpack 12v stabaliser which apperantly makes sure no more than 12v gets to the telly http://www.boatshare.co.uk/12voltregulator/index.htm this is the one. It alone uses 5.5 amps could this be the problem , could i connect the tv to 12v without using this box?

Crikey, what brand/model is the set, 43w is pretty steep (even if it is the quoted max rating).
Even so, it shouldn't be running the battery down as quick as that, I run my 12v TV off the battery for 2-3 hours a day when off EHU without any issue.
Incidentally, there's an interesting disclaimer on the site you linked to: ... and we cannot be held responsible for any resulting malfunctions that may or may not happen as a result of your using it with a TV set not supplied by us.
The regulator isn't necessary in my opinion, but there are far more 'lightweight' 12v controller's available if you feel the protection is necessary. Also from the blurb on the site you linked, it does say the unit shuts down under several conditions, which would be indicative to me that your regulator is the issue; whether it's working and doing what it should do, or if it's faulty.
Hi, will the tv work off mains or just 12v, if so does it work any longer on mains, reason I ask is does the tv have a sleep timer. also when it goes off have you tried switching off and on again? as you have 2 batteries now charge them both check voltage with a meter then run tv until it goes off then check with meter again. do this with both batteries to see if they both read the same after tv has cut out. as regards using without regulator would not do that if charger is running.
