I have tried to light my thetford fridge on gas , I keep the button depressed for 30 seconds as recommended and can hear the gas coming through and the igniter ticking but as soon as I let go of the button the gas goes off , I know it isn't lit because the igniter is still clicking , any ideas
Thanks
Julie
Hello Julie. Is the gas actually igniting when you hold in the button and press the ignitor switch?. You can see the flame through the little window in the corner of the fridge. If it isnt lighting then it probably needs the burner cleaning, (servicing). If it IS lighting and wont stay lit when you release the push in knob then it is almost certainly the THERMOCOUPLE flame failure fitting that has failed. In either case you will need a COMPETENT person to rectify the fault. A new thermocouple is not an expensive fix. Good luck.
Depends which model fridge you have. The model numbers are on a sticker behind the salad tray. The begin with N..
Egracedeb, those were the old days when you had a £10 thermocouple to replace! Had a similar prob with my Thetford model N112. Engineer first replaced the main burner jet as these are don't last for ever. This did not cure prob, so next culprit is the circuit board, which seems to have enough computing power to get you and your fridge to Mars and back. Problem solved, took 1 1/2 hours, circuit board cost £112, burner part, I forget how much but total bill £209.
My last van was serviced begining of year, engineer could not get fridge to work on gas, He replaced burner at cost of £30 from out side by removing grills. Then worked first try.
I had not run fridge on gas for about 3 years as always used 240 v EHU.
Now on new van I test on gas every month then switch back to EHU.
On new van everything is touch screen just touch until flame or gas sign appears touch again for temp when red light turns green fridge is running on gas you dont even hear it ignite but if it fails you get a beep beep like when battery in smoke alarm needs replacing.
