Hi just fitted the sky-tag roof ID and the CRIS plus kit to my caravan, seems both are a great pieces of kit together with the rest of my security i feel quite happy. The sky-tag seems good as who looks on the roof, the numbers can be seen by over head cameras, and the micro dots with the CRIS kit are something else, has anyone else fitted either of these.

Is this actually required by your insurance co. or do you get a discount from your insurance co. that completely covers the cost of fitting extra anti theft security over & above that which is usually required, ie hitchlock/wheelclamp under insurance terms?

If you think this through them imagine this senario. Your caravan is stolen & used for residential purposes as most are. Would you want it back after 2months? In fact you wouldn't get it back. If your caravan is stolen then it is treated as a writeoff by your insurance, you are paid out & if the caravan is subsequently recovered then it is property of insurer who will then sell it at auction to anybody who wants to repair it.

The security devices you mention are passive & while they might aid recovery of a stolen caravan they are not extra locking devices to prevent theft in the first place. So all you are really doing here is helping your insurer at your own expense & not yourself, ie its like a voluntary extra premium that has not been asked for & would not change any outcome should your caravan be stolen.

Unfortunately police do not treat theft of individual caravans as high priority, they prefer to investigate gangs involved in multiple thefts & will often recover several stolen 'vans months after thefts & victims have already been paid out.

I agree with Ludovine.   I am all for fitting as many security devices as possible to stop the theft of your caravan.   When ours is on the drive, I use two wheel clamps, hitch lock, corner locks, alarm and it's on CCTV.

The sky-tag roof ID and the CRIS plus kit you mention are to try and recover the van should it be stolen. If my van is stolen and used by some undesirables then to be honest I don't want it back!
