The new van we bought has thrown up another "problem" - which I'm a little unsure if I've understood as an easy fix.

The gas cooker lights, but gives a constant low flow of gas, which doesn't change when turned up / down etc. I've changed the bottle, and it's still the same. Now - when I looked in the locker, the propane bottle has a regulator fitted, but the van also has a regulator built in.

Am I correct in thinking I can either:

a) remove the regulator on the bottle and replace with a pigtail connection straight between the bottle and the built in regulator.

or

b) bypass the fixed regulator on the van and use only the bottle-top regulator.

Thanks in advance of any replies.

As sunshine leisure says, you do not need two.
Some while back bulkhead mounted regulators were prone to failure and I just wonder if that one has failed and the extra bottle mounted one was intended to replace it.
Either way I wouldn't have thought that having two regulators would have caused the problem with the oven.
If you bought the caravan from a dealer, why not have a word with them.

Yes use one or the other not both. Bulkhead regulators have been known to fail so possibly this is an inept attempt at a fix? Anyway it is no good as it is so you can get a pigtail & connect to bottle & bulkhead regulator & hope bulkhead regulator is ok or you can bypass bulkhead regulator & connect bottle top regulator direct.

I guess if you want to remove bulkhead regulator then you will need to fit nipple to copper feed pipe so easier just to get pigtail & try that.

PS. Have just seen your other post implying van was bought privately.
Gas modifications can be tricky and dangerous so why not get a qualified fitter to have a look.

Thanks for the replies - I've read that the fitted regulators were prone to failure, so I was hoping to just use the bottle top regulator and miss out the fitted one altogether, as knowing my luck I'd buy the pigtail and then find the fitted one was knackered and then have to shell out for the new fitted regulator too.

It seems to be one thing after another with the van - it's really took the shine off it all for us...

The van currently has 2 regulators fitted - The bulkhead and the bottle regulator are both 30bar. The propane head fitting has been cut off and a normal bottle top regulator put in it's place.

I have tonight been and purchased a new pigtail with the correct connections. I'll be back at the van a week on Friday, so i'll fit the new pigtail. If it works it must mean the 2 regulators are lowering the pressure too far. If not, then the bulkhead regulator is paggered.
