We've not long had our caravan and are going away in a couple of weeks. Up to now we have just stayed in it one night and when we woke some cushions were damp due to condensation on the walls. It was a cold night and we had our heater on late evening and early morning. Has anyone any tips please apart from opening the windows please?

condensation is warm damp air hitting cold surfaces..

ventilation dries out the condensation.. sadly it also make the warm air less warm.. :)

the damp air can come from normal human breath or maybe damp in the van..

i would check the van for damp..

The van needs to warm up even the walls, this happened to us, as we use the van in winter, we have put ventilation boards between walls and back of the seats, but as a short term measure we used our walking poles to keep the cushions off the walls.

in theory a well insulated van should not have cold walls if the inside has been heated.. mind you areas behind seat cushions and the likes are being insulated from the internal heat in the van so might have condensation problems.. more so if the cushion are moved after the van has been heated exposing the cold areas behind them..

i still suspect damp in van if excessive condensation is present.. but i am just thinking aloud.. :)

Leave the heating on low overnight and open a couple of windows an inch to improve the airflow.

If you can heat the van up the day before you go away, get the van warm and then put the windows on the night catch and open the roof a little. Then when you go away just use the heat as you want and you should find little or no condensation. We sleep with the van well ventilated so get no condensation at all, if you do not use the night catches then you can expect to find the internal windows covered in condensation.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

We have quiet a bit of condensation on the walls in colder and wetter weather. Ours is mostly in the kids bunk area where it's quite closed in. I don't like a draft at night as we have a 2 year old, so I just open some windows to vent in the day and dry it out. We had it before our damp was fixed and still have it now (the damp is defo gone).
