Hi, having a few problems with my Sterling Elite Searcher with the electrics, i keep my van outside the house and hooked up to the ECU to keep the leisure battery topped up, however when i went into van last weekend i had lost the 12v power even though the charger had been switched on, the new battery i had only just recently installed was dead and down to 8.5v.
Searching the Web it seams that my van was manufactured at the time Swift had problems with that particular charger/ unit which is a Nordelecttronica MCU-C, can anyone tell is this a complete unit ie consumer unit with built in charger or does it have a separate hidden charger hidden away somewhere, i have searched high and low but cant find anything but the main unit in the cupboard.

Also where can i get one from.

Thanks

Andy

The charger is integrated into the unit. These were IMO technically good units that featured a proper "smart" charger, but were unfortunately let down by a single weak component. They are well worth getting them repaired or buying a refurbished unit; this company is reportedly good for such work:

When I had problems with my nordelectronica unit it failed by putting too many 12 volt things on at the same time, replaced the unit and the same thing happened again. I replaced mine with an older unit and had no further problems.

Had you lost the use of your 12 volt stuff or did you just have a flat battery? I didn't realise for a few years that if you don't press the "caravan" button on the control unit it doesn't bring the battery into circuit i.e. you can still run your 12 volts but this is directly through the charger unit rather than via the battery.

One good thing about Sargent is that I have found them very helpful when advice is needed.
