HI, I am looking to purchase/fit a Witter type cycle carrier to carry two cycles whilst towing. Anyone with experience/advice? Have two main concerns, Fouling of caravan whilst turning & nose weight. Caravan has rated 100kg NW, Car - Kia Sorento a 112kg limit. Can I lighten caravan to bring combined weight into car limits OR is there a way of increasing car nose weight limit?
Any and all comments welcomed.
Your main problem will be the weight. A couple of bikes plus the weight of the rack will take you way above the limit of 112 kg for your car.
You should try and keep the van around the 100Kg noseweight for best stability. if you start to reduce the noseweight of the van just to get some bikes on the towball your van might become unstable.
What is the nose weight of your van under normal use ?
Easiest option would be to get a good bike stand and put the bikes in the van.
Not from me it doesnt. Bikes will wobble side to side and WILL crash/lean over and scratch whatever they hit. We binned it and in the end put a towel on the side of the bikes and leaned them right over. they then never moved at all.
took 2 bikes on our 3 cycle carrier last weekend mine fits on the rear tail gate no problems with catching the van even on full lock can not think what make it is picked it up from a charity shop for £8 great buy
