Anyone with any advice on how to line a freedom caravan please help !! Bought an old-ish one and its lined with thin material only . Will this do or does it need something more substantial,if so what ? Also what might the cost be and can it be done bit by bit to spread the cost and the work ,many thanks people 😄

its usually done with soft carpeting type material..

its never going to have super insulation type properties but it looks nice enough..

Is this the type of stuff you are after

lining carpet

Not used it myself but looking at it for my land rover, from what I have read you need the high temp glue otherwise it will come unstuck. To provide some insulation you could used closed cell foam sheet (does not absorb moisture) first.

Hi,

I've re-lined mine this year using veltrim over double sided foil insulation (each are about about 4mm thick). I ordered 12 metres of veltrim (it's 2 metres wide) which was plenty. I also got 12 tins of high temp spray adhesive which again was plenty for the insulation and the veltrim.

I think the company was called Harrisons and they were very helpful on the phone. I think the veltrim and glue was about £125 and the foil insulation was about £35 from ebay.

I removed all the furniture including wall cabinets which made the job easier. The wall cabinets also hide most of the cut edges when you refit them.

I had to replace the plywood floor in mine and two of the wooden bearers under the floor as they were damp and rotten from a few leaks (rear lights , 240v inlet and marker lights).

It's a messy job. Once you start pulling the old material off you will probably find that the foam backing has disintegrated. it's horrible stuff as its sticky from the original glue and it sticks to everything!

I know a lot of people have used wire brushes and various cleaners to get all the old glue/foam off the fibre glass shell. I just got the majority of it off with a scraper and then stuck the foil insulation on top. I had no problems with adhesion using this method.

If you are thinking of running additional electrics or other mod cons this is a good opportunity to do it as you have much better access with the furniture out.

I'm really pleased with the end result. Just take your time and you can get a really nice finish.
