Just had a call from the place I keep the van. They tell me the front window has been smashed so I need a replacement ASP. Can anyone help with the address/contact details of where I can get a replacement
Thanks.
Lowdhams, either at Nottingham or Huddersfield will get one for you.
Mine came very well packed for courier service. Took about three weeks. I hope your insurance covers it, mine was warranty, but I recall it being an expensive item.
Measure very carefully its two principal dimensions and tell them, just to be sure; they sent the wrong size from Germany initially!
Replacing it was very easy; note there is a little push in trigger to remove the "blocks", well there was on mine and I had to transfer these from unit to unit. The window itself comes off by fully opening it to near vertical.
If you supply them with caravan serial number that should assist in supplying correct window as there should be a record of specific caravan somewhere. If you have any problem getting replacement then there are places that will make you a new one using old one as pattern.
Ring Lowdhams ( Huddersfield branch is 01484642613 ) ALL parts for your van are available from Hymer and it takes Lowdhams only 7 days to get them. It helps if you have your caravans serial number but a 2004 nova 390 should get them all the information they require especially for something like a window. My van is a 2003 nova 470 that I have had from new and I have been amazed and delighted with how good Hymer together with Lowdhams are with spare parts.
In the meantime stick cardboard over the hole in the window using tape, then seal the whole of the window to the van with polythene ( wheelie bin liners are cheap and strong) and gaffa tape.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Thanks for the advice re the window. Bill. I have contacted Lowdhams and await their reply.
As for the hymer range, I can't fault them. I would never buy another leaky uk van. The only gripe I have with it/them is they are so well built, heavy and solid you want a heavy end tug to move them legally.
My brother tows his 390 with an Octavian estate, I tow my 470 with a Mondeo. You do not need an enormous tractor to tow them easily and safely.

UK spec Hymers were imported with the higher load carrying axle option, so the UK ones tend to have impressive payloads. Some continental specs can come with quite low payload
So comparisons to many other vans of MTPLM could well mislead, it is not comparing like with like; comparing MIRO might give a more balanced comparison.
If I remember correctly, as I looked at them in the early 2000s, the 390s had a massive 300 kg payload on a bit over 1000kg MIRO. But I stand to be corrected as it was now 12 years ago, though their payload left an impression.
