collected my brother in laws new caravan today.well new to them,i noticed when pushing lever down for the stabilizer there is no friction at all,it just flopsup and down.I know mine has good resistance when lever is pushed.I dont know much about these.Can it be adjusted or will it need pads,either way i have no idea what to do.Any ideas would be very nice,thankyou.

sounds like the friction pads are either extremely worn or missing?

Easy to fix and not expensive though, when you're not attached put hand inside and feel for them

i think it is the AKS3004 red alko unit.its on a 2002 lunar clubman.It might be me but it looks complicated to fit pads.So how many pads are in there and where would i get them from.Is it worth me having a go myself.

I did mine last year. I found it easy, only took a few minutes. Lunar Freelander 2004. Got pads from my caravan storage accessory shop.

mmm I did mine last year and seemed to remember having to be careful not to dislodge the rubber seals which should stay in the housing as the new ones don't normally come with these.
Am I remembering this correctly?

The friction pads are almost certainly missing - and they'll be missing because someone previously changed them and lost/damaged to tiny 'O' ring/s that hold the stem of the side pads in place.

Without the retaining 'O' rings the pads will simply drop out of their tubes.

The 'O' rings are a bit fiddly to fit - I find it best to put them on the pad stem, and then insert the stem - hopefully locating the 'O' ring in its groove.

Do the front & rear pads while you're at it, just as easy, no 'O' rings to worry about - they're held in place with a Torx screw

The 'O' rings are available at a ridiculous price (around £4) but you'll need them before you fit the new side pads.
