You can also buy a freestanding extender, a bit like a narrow campbed, they were featured on one of the threads on here a couple of years ago, or you may be able to find them on google.
If its only a couple of inches wider that you need, then just try pulling the mattresses away from the wall a little, its amazing the difference this can make and the bases are normally ridgid enough to keep the front edges firm.

Edited to add, if you google ' Bed rail extenders' on google, there are several types and websites including e-bay that are selling them.

That looks good, how is it secured to the plinths, or is it free standing.

I put 12" X 4" copper strips screwed to the bench part and then bent at right angles along the length, so that they clipped over the rim of the outside of the bed.
The legs fold up for storage but when down, these have snib bolts that align with small holes in the plywood sides of the original bed.
You can see the bolt on the far away leg.
Actually this mod takes up so little room that we tend to leave this arrangement up all the time, roll the bedding next to the wall and use the bed as a seat when we are preparing a meal.
If I was making this again, I would use two sheets of 1/4" ply with a wood surround and a foam centre.
