It looks like my battery has had it. I brought it home to charge up as it's been sat in storage for a while. I took a fair bit of water to top it up and when I checked it a couple of hours later there was a pool of water under it so I suspect it's sprung a leak over Xmas. To be on the safe side I've taken it off charge and will see if the water level drops by morning.
There are a few caravan & camping places nearby, and a Go Outdoors. Are batteries much of a muchness or should I be looking at particular makes ?
Numax is a well known maker of leisure batteries, just make sure the terminals are the correct way round your replacement will fit the battery compartment on the van.

No most definitely they are not, they are designed for specific jobs.
If you want a caravan battery to be suitable for use off an EHU, then it needs a decent ability to give out a significant percentage of its stowed energy. That is not something a starter battery gives, though for mover only use, and caravanning only on an EHU, a starter battery is fine. For off EHU use we need a deep cycling ability; the sellers ar full of so called leisure batteries but these are often not really what it says on the label.
