Afternoon I'm after some information regarding the cost of damp repairs.
Me & my late wife bought a 1995 Abbey Lincoln caravan so we could have cheap holidays for the remaining time she had left & when we got it we knew that the rooflight vents leaked & there was a little bit of damp at just the rear of the van due to this, so I replaced the vents problem solved no more new damp & we as a family had some fantastic times in it.My wife passed away the the following year so last year me & the kids used it & it was fine, but today I've been to check it over as we're going to alton towers only to find today the rear roof light full of water so I'm assuming the center exterior trim is leaking now. My problem I have is me & the kids don't want to get rid of the van for obvious reasons but how expensive is damp to fix/repair as I don't have a great deal of money to spend on it.

Hi ken hope your well ? I take it your on about the ally trim that goes down the center of the van? (front 2 back!) If it were mine i would get a tube of TIGER SEAL from your local motor discount and seal with that !!!! dont go mad as you will get it every wear ! & leave it alone 1s aplyed , if you take your time you can make a nice job of it & it wont look out of place, As 4 the damp you have in the van if you can put a small heater in this will help 2 dry it out,you can get some damp traps from your local shops only about £1ish each they work realy well, helps when your vans stood! hope this helps? regards Steve

ken, if it is a boat roof type with a aluminium strip running down the middle of the roof there is 2 ways of fixing it. 1 is to remove the strip, clean up all mastic and put a strip of mastic between roof and strip and replace strip

the bosh is to get said roll of mastic strip and overlay it over the aluminium strip, pressing it down hard. another semi bodge is using soudal caravan sealant run a bead along all external rails and joints, (will take 2 tubes) it should stop any water from working its way in. did that job on my van last year and she has remained 100% damp free. It might be a bosh but it is a loat easier than removing all rails and resealing with mastic strip
