Thetford C250 Electrical Flush problem and Tank Full intermittent light.

Got a Bailey Mk1 Unicorn Valencia 2011 that developed a no flush when pressing the button.
This may apply to other caravans that uses the Theford C250 toilet housing.

Also intermittent cassette full Red warning light.

The two problems are separate, the No Flush fault came down to a corroded 7 amp fuse holder inside the cassette housing also caused corrosion to the fuse causing a high resistance open circuit.

The location of the the fuse holder is not the best place to be,as wet condition contribute towards the corrosion.

So I have replaced with a weather proof fuse holder and mounted it up higher just behind the Reed Switch bracket.

This comes on to the 2nd intermittent tank full RED warning light on the REED circuit board, the bracket has become loose and moves back and fought that holds the REED board, also check the board for corrosion on the edge wire connector, you can also check the reed board is working ok by using a magnet near to the Reed Switch circuit board to light up the full warning LED.

The cheaper option is to put a small piece of sponge behind the bracket to the back wall of the cassette with a bit of glue to the rear housing to act as a shock absorber when you insert the the tank cassette, the other option is to replace the bracket that holds the REED switch and wiring.

I hope this helps.

Mike

I also have a series 1 unicorn valencia, 2 problems so far with the toilet, my old 20 yr old swift conqueror shows this van up a bit!
However, after returning from france towing some 1100 miles, after cleaning van to return it to storage, 2 miles, on arriving found toilet bowl full and pink fluid all over the floor!
Did not know how this had happened. On being away this last weekend, noticed pump running for flush at a slow speed, also top panel became hot, toilet overflowed and pink fluid all over again!
Looks like the flush switch is faulty and is part making circuit when powered up.
You have to remove the sticker to get the panel out. Like many have mentioned this toilet is of poor design with regard to longevity.

Daz, I think there is a similar fuse holder at the rear of the cassette compartment in most Thetford toilets. Take the cassette out and look right at the back of the box, you should see a little PCB on a bracket with a couple of wires going to it, the blade type fuse sits on it and often gets corroded due to moisture.

As for the problems with the membrane and switches on the control panel, yes, they are well documented, it's supposed to be waterproof in theory but isn't in practice. An easy fix tho but costly and as you pointed out it shouldn't be required.

Dave.
