Hi all, i have a problem with the 12v electric system in my Elddis Crusader Hurricane (2005) It's stopped working! When I have the 240v plugged in, everything is fine, all 12v fittings work perfectly - as soon as this is disconnected the gauge drops to zero and nothing works! The battery is fine, I was told that it required a new charger - fit the new one and still nothing. There's an inline fuse which, although it doesn't look like it's connected to the charger wiring, I've checked it anyway and thats ok, fuses on main board are ok. As I said, it's ok when connected to 240v so I'm ok on sites, but we're off to France in June and I'll need it working then for stops on Aires etc. I've no problem paying to get it fixed, it's just that it's such a pain getting it out of my garden and onto the road to take it to a service centre and I've struggled to get a mobile service to come out. Hope someone out there has a bit more idea than I have! look forward to all your suggestions, cheers, Mike

To me the only explanation of this would be a break somewhere in the wiring from the battery to the vans internal 12v system, ie the place where the power supply joins up with the battery supply. Do not know what though or even how this is possible.
I would get my multimeter and follow the cables from the battery back to the next set of connectors looking for a continuity problem.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Morning. Yes, I agree with Janus in the previous post, there seeems to be a break in continuity between the battery and the charger unit. You say you have got a new charger?, maybe there was nothing wrong with the previous charger, but the real problem is no connection to the battery? Check out the continuity methodically from the battery to the charger unit, looks like this is the problem, broken wire, bad connection, fuse?, are your battery terminal connections sound? Good luck.

When you say 'the battery is fine', how did you confirm that?

You really need to ensure the battery is fully charged then carry out a systematic check at each termination in the wiring circuit to ensure continuity.

If it was all good and then suddenly failed it could well be just a poor termination.

Don't forget to check the battery earth connection. This can often cause this sort of problem. Don't just look at it, take it apart and clean it up before putting it back.
