I've been doing up a 1986 compass echo 340/2. Stupidly I have thrown away the cushions and have recently been quoted £500 for new foam and labour to cover them! This is more than I paid for the van! What are your thoughts on buying second hand cushions? I've been looking on eBay and have seen some reasonable prices. And have even thought about getting bigger ones and cutting them down and then just pay for them to be recovered. Can I clean the foam in anyway? And is there a way I can ensure they are fire proofed?
You would sleep more comfortably by converting it to a fixed bed. Double memory foam mattress 6inch thick including cover from ebay for around £100. Thats what I have done with my '85 caravan. Bed made up from old cushions is usually uncomfortable, thats what I found.
Hi thanks for your reply, do you mean buying the mattress and then cutting it to size or having it while all the time. Sorry if the question sounds stupid
Depends on your caravan layout but where cushions make up into double bed there should be a space for double mattress or small double at least. So use a double mattress as a fixed permanent bed. You will then find you get as good a nights sleep as in your bed at home instead of a lumpy bed made from cushions so a real improvement on an old caravan.
I have just got new cushionsfor my Avondale dart 470/2. I still have the old cushions which will be for sale at reasonable cost. I am in Shrewsbury. If you are interested ask admin for my email address and I will forward photos.
I bought foam cut to size off eBay and then made simple envelope covers myself. Quite simple if a little time consuming - took a couple of weekends in total.
