The previous owner of the van removed the on-board water tank to gain extra storage space under the seat. A Shurflo pump has been fitted with a bit of a bodge whale type water in let. I think it's just a filter not actually a pump but looks like a Whale type submersible.
The set up it has now doesn't work well, to me it hasn't got enough pressure to keep a nice flow of water to the taps.
I would like to re fit the tank as It came with the van I'm just not quite sure how the original set up would have been. Also the wiring will need to be sorted out.
Does anyone know how the system would have been set up originally ? I have heard that there should be two pumps, One to get water from the barrel to the tank, then another to get water from the tank to the taps. I'm not sure how true this is.
I did also get this with the van,
I'm presuming this would have been the water inlet from the aqua roll to the van. I don't know what type this is.
Looking at what's going on there I would take it all out and start from scratch, If you don't actually need an onboard tank then don't put it back in because it would probably need 2 pumps which would put a big draw on the battery.
My 1986 windrush has a shurflo pump and looking at the date on mine it's the original pump, if yours is spluttering then I would say air is getting in somewhere so check all the water pipes.

Yes, The pump does splutter a bit, More like you get a mini shower while trying to wash up
There is a small leak from the inlet socket from the aquaroll that plugs into the van, only very small but could be creating a problem. I will check that.
I do need to strip some of that wiring out as it's a bit Heath Robinson !
The Shurflo pump is original and would have been attached to the wardrobewall (you can see the original mounting holes) The feed came from the bottom of the onboard tank where your red hose comes through and into the filter then the pump. Delivery was pressure activated by openinga tap. Power always on to the pump with a pressure cutoff when the taps/shower taps closed. There was also an isolating switch for the pump in the above wardrobe front left corner.
The onboard tank was filled by a hose connection from the water inlet which usually had a submersible pump and tube stored inside the water hatch and dropped into the water hog or aquaroll. Thiswas controlled by an on off switch in the battery locker on the inside bulkhead next to the light switch for the four corner steady lights.
As you say the yellow wires are the zig water level sender unit and could prob be just reconnected.
There should be an overflow pipe from the top of the onboard leading through a hole in the floor which is an audible indicator that the onboard tank is full as the water p***es out below the van. When you hear the water then switch off the submersible pump (battery locker switch)
Many thanks for that very useful information. I see the holes where the pump was mounted on the wall now, I wonder why the previous owner mounted it on the floor ? It is a new pump by the way, not the original. The switch for the pump is still in place in the base of the wardrobe in the corner.
There is a hole in the floor which I presumed was an overflow so that makes sense.
I have managed to get it running properly by eliminating the Whale type fitting from outside which was the culprit for allowing air to be sucked in. I put the feed pipe directly into a water container inside the van and it worked ok. Plenty of pressure.
Great information which is much appreciated, Thankyou.
