As I'm a total newbie to caravaning and seeing as I've planned our first trip away I'm after abit of advice as to how we set up our toilet.

When we bought the van the lady said add a capful of blue and then fill it up with water however I read on the net this stains the toilet so to use the pink instead?

I see you can buy sachets now but I'm thinking if I add a sachet to the toilet tank then do I add some water to it too to start it dissolving?

Finally if I was to use the loo do you open the flap first or do you use it then open it? Sorry not the best topic but thought I'd ask and if it's a stupid question please forgive me!

The toilets a tetford 220 I think is the model..

Pink fluid goes in the top tank which is the flush and the blue fluid goes in the bottom cassette tank which breaks down the waste. You only need about two egg cup fulls of blue in the bottom waste tank then about a mug full of fresh water added. The top flush tank I put about half a cup full of pink fluid then fill up with fresh water.
Regarding the flap, you leave it closed for No. 1 but if you are going for No. 2 then the best way is to break off about two pieces of toilet roll and lay it over the flap then the same again the opposite way. After you have done the performance you flush some pink fluid into the bowl, open the flap then the body waste goes into a kind of envelope so there are no messy marks left behind to clean round. If there is then it's only a bit which you can use a toilet brush as normal.
Hope this explains in the best possible way without going into too much detail.

Blue in the bottom waste tank with a bit of water, tells you how much on the bottle. Pink in the top with the flush water. Again bottle will tell you how much. You can also get fluids that you can use in the top and the bottom. Some people also use washing tablets in the bottom cassette instead of blue. Also just plain water in the flush.

Trap open or shut, the choice is yours.

You could just use this in both tanks.

I thought there was an unwritten rule that the toilet was never intended for No.2's

Put the blue fluid into the bottom tank when removed! If you pour it in via the bowl it will stain if it touches any part.

In all my years caravanning I've never bothered adding water to the blue, it will just make the tank fill up quicker.
A few cans of Stella works wonders to dilute it
