I have an old Swift Challenger and for right or wrong I have green pad scrubbed it down with a bleach water solution. Came up nice and clean - took years of grime off. I now need to protect the surface. Should I use a wax? If so which is the best? Or I have seen a YouTube video and this guy used teak oil. Is this a possibility? Does the teak oil penetrate the coating? Will it at track more dirt? Just generally what do you think. Thanks as always.

a scotch pad is likely to have dulled the finish some what?

Hopefully you haven't put loads of micro scratches in it using a green pad, I certainly wouldn't use bleach, bleach is only really any good and removing the colour of what is on there, also it's not very good for the rubber seals and the trims.

personally I would say yes use a good quality wax, teak oil is for wood and usually has some colouring to it, at least the teak oil I have used on my wooden garden furniture has.

When I clean my caravan I use my pressure washer with the brush attatchment, put diluted car shampoo and wax in a 1 litre bottle and feed it in through the syphon tube, that does a fantastic job at getting all the grime off in fact it will even take tree sap off quite easliy.

Use car wax. Teak oil is for penetrating wood. It won't work on paint.

i just bought some clear teak oil from aldis for the inside of my van.. it might work on old porous paint but i would use normal car wax on the outside..

Never been a fan of megs gold class it doesn't last long at all

For ease of application and life span Collinite insulator wax

The modern nanno spray sealents are very good too due to the spray on wipe off application but they are not cheap

I dont think his green pad,if its the one with a sponge on the other side for dishes would damage the lacquer finish as its baked on.
As others know im a big fan of showroom shine and i would recommended it for sealing and polishing

Thanks Andy - I looked at the Collinite on line and was wondering. I have a 1989 Swift Challenger. Do you think it has a gel coat or a vinyl coating. If it is vinyl the Collinite application sheet on their website says it it not good for vinyl. Any thoughts. Another question. I used a rubber eraser wheel to remove the stickers including the long side strip. Should I put a new strip on or paint a new strip before waxing or after?Thanks

Hi, I use showroom shine its not cheap about £14 a ltr but once its had 1 coat of showroom shine any black streaks wipe simply away with a bit of showroom shine on a cloth. I use it on mine before putting cover on for winter then give it a quick coat before our main holiday in summer. you will find it on e-bay but shop round prices vary.
