hello everyone i have applied new decals to the front locker on my van also some coachlines, i would like to do the whole van with new coachlines but its a horrable job removing, the old ones. any tips on removing ..tried hairdryer method but that will just run up elec bill as it will be on for a while. can i apply over old decals as they are on for eternity i think.the new coachlines are wider than originals. thanks again.

A hairdryer isn't hot enough, you need something hotter such as a paint stripping gun but you will have to apply to and fro fairly fast and peel the decals off a bit at a time. It will work providing you do it with care and don't hold the gun in one place at any one time.

the hairdryer did work but makes panel to hot to touch. and i am basically scraping old decal off with my thumbnail as i dont want to scratch paintwork . so a paint stripping gun or hot air gun would not work unless you can suggest a tool to remove old coachlines without scraping paint. ??

It will work if you use a wood chisel upside down, heat a small section first then drive the chisel underneath and the decal will slowly peel off. You carry on and do about another inch and so forth but of course there is a knack to it because I've done it myself but just on one side of a caravan to remove the long decal under the window. It's no different to heating and scraping paint from wood except you need a bit of patience and skill of controlling a chisel in one hand and heat gun in the other.

In the past I've used boiling water and a blunt scraper to do this. Takes a while but is effective. Wondering if one of those small steam cleaners you see advertised would work?

the secret is once you get one edge peeled up be very careful and dont tear the decal.. done right they will peel off in one go.. a hot air gun on low does the trick.. play the hot air under the sticker once its lifted..

if you do tear one start at the other end dont keep picking at the torn piece.. if they have gone too hard life gets difficult.. he he

there is a knack to it but they can come off quite easy.. :)

I used a steam wallpaper stripper as the hairdryer was not hot enough and I had previously blown my hot air gun.
Worked very well. Then used tar remover (for cars) to take the final bit of gunk/residue off (which you probably will not need if you are going over the original striping)

Paint gun is the quickest use an old plastic spatula eg from the kitchen.

i never use any tool other than the hot air gun and my finger nails to get the peeling started.. it is really about softening the glue and peeling off the sticker..

scraping with a tool is doing it wrong.. i have done a few in my time and have found out the hard and easy way to get stickers off.. basically you dont scrape them off you peel them off.. done right they will peel off..
