Hi,

We have a strange damp patch that keeps appearing in just one particular spot on the floor. It is bone dry all around it and during the day it dries out, then re-appears overnight.

I have resealed the awing rails, window, window rail, wheel arches but still can't seem to stop it. There is not a roof light above it and it is not coming in from the roof as the rails up there have been re sealed and the roof shows no signs of damp.

I drilled a small hole in it yesterday but the ply was just as hard as the rest so it hasn't rotted the floor.

I have uploaded a picture to profile.

Any ideas where it could be coming from?

Does it smell at all,looks like something in the wood of the floor,like a preservative,you could put some kitchen roll over it but keep it off the floor surface,that way you can see if the stain is coming from the top of the van or the floor itself.

Could be leaching wood preserve as stated above, where the grain is more open the board.

Hi, can't smell anything too strange around it (in process of painting the van so can only really smell paint). I have tried the bowl suggestion today and try paper towel etc tomorrow.

The van was very wet but has been virtually rebuilt so all walls and roof are bone dry, the floor is yet to be repaired as it is spongy near the patch in question, could it be residual moisture in the floor?

Could well be,you say it dries but returns overnight,try a fan heater for awhile if the floor around it is spongy it may need replacing.

Sorry when I say spongy I don't mean damp spongy, both top and bottom layer of ply is solid so going to try the delamination kit.

I'm no expert but I think you will resolve it soon,it doesn't appear to be serious,just keep an eye on it,if it doesn't spread then it will dry out eventually,best of luck,keep us informed.

It may be that something that attracts water, (hygroscopic, maybe salt or sugar solution) was accidently spilled on the floor by a previous owner and the residue attracts moisture out of the air.
