Hi new to the forum and after some help/advice. We brought a 1994 ace tycoon 2 weeks ago. Went over it, looked ok and could see it had had some repairs previously. But all looked ok. Got it home and other half was looking under the front seat when he noticed the front side wall wasn't even joined to the floor! Panic!!! So took the seat out for a closer look. Floor in that corner is completely rotten! Great!! More delving reveals the wall that meets the front is completely rotten! I'm an average diy'er I can do this! So I've completely stripped the front end cut out the rotten wood. Yesterday I started to cut out the rotten floor and realised there is joists in the floor. These aren't wet damp or rotten so I've left them in place and cut around them to remove the damp floor. Will add pics when I can figuire it out but am I doing it right? I'm feeling like I've maybe took on abit more than I can do! Any help advice would be very muchly appreciated!!
You need to cover the caravan over with a water proof sheet to stop any more damp for now ,then glue 3mm ply on to the area of floor you have cut out, next step remove any damp wall board and repair or replace any rotten battens on the inside once that's done you need to remove and reseal the awning rail and any other outside trim etc once you sure there's no more leaks replace the wallboard and seatbox lthe idea being if you leave replacing the wall board until last any leaks will be easier to spot once you have reseald the awning rail and any other outside trim .
Thanks for your replies. I haven touched the caravan since posting this so today I've been to the local timber yard and got the wood to replace the rotten frame around the side of the front windows and side wall where it goes into the front box. I've used no nails so glue them on an plan on putting screws into them through the awning rail. I'm not sure if that's how it's ment to be as there was no wood there at all when I stripped it! Tomorrow I was going to make the floor sections. Batton where it will meet the wall then use the polystyrene I already have and use 3mm ply. Same as before. Just wasn't sure how to secure it to the joists and wall. Still can't figuire out how to add pics!!
I notice tonight when we were sealing the rail on the front box, on the rail above the windows there should be the little black stoppers on each end. There isn't any. Can I buy them from anywhere as there is quite a gap which is where I think water has been getting in.
