Topic: Caravan indicator not working

Apologies if this has been asked before.

The right hand indicator is not working on my caravan, I changed the plug on the caravan and it still didn't work, so I had a mobile service person come out to have a look. He told me that the indicators on the caravan where fine so it must be the connection on the tow bar, so I needed to get a new connector and put that on, he then charged me £40 and went on his merry way, safe to say I wont be using him again. I have changed the connector on the tow bar now as well and still no indicator. We are due to go away on Sunday! can anyone advise me as to what this could be

I had this the night before we went away last.
do you have a voltmeter for testing? if so check the voltage at the plug first if so, then check voltage to lights. usually this problem is loose or poor connections. if not.
1. check the plug and socket are making good connections,
2.remove the lens cover from the light and check all connections. take them off one at a time and make sure they are clean before refitting.
when you take one off check to see if the indicator works each time, something might be dragging it down
3. swap the bulb with another.
4 swap the feed wire to another bulb, does this flash?
they are quite a simple circuit but it depends on your diy capabilities and having a few of the right tools.
did the light actually work when the guy was there?

yeh it worked when he was here he checked all the lights and cleaned all the connections, he said it must be the tow bar and said changing the socket on that should do the trick, it hasn't.

with the indicators on try holding the plug and twist it a little clockwise, and then anti clockwise this may help workout if the pins are making good contact.

I had exactly the same problem two years ago after hitching up so I unscrewed the rear caravan lens, withdrew the bulb and seen there was a little surface corrosion around the bulb body. Out came the tool box to which I carry wire wool and Brasso so I thoroughly cleaned up the bulb along with the bulb holder it screwed in to as well as the connecting earth contact.
I then screwed the bulb back in and Hey Presto! it worked.
At the campsite the next day, I removed both lenses and cleaned up all the bulbs because if one bulbs fails then it's possible that any of the others could shortly follow suit.
Prevention is better than cure but sometimes what you think is a major job turns out to be something quite minor.
My advice is to remove the bulb and inspect it yourself for surface corrosion and that the filament is still in tact.

Thanks for all the help it turns out that its the relay box from the tow bar to the car. Thanks again.
