hi, I have a 1983 Eccles Amethyst, and am looking to change the awning rail strip, or herzim strip, as I believe it is called. Its shaped like a 'tick' if you look at the end of it. I can't seem to find anything like it. Does anyone know if I can use the standard flattened semi-circle type instead? It looks as if it will fit into the channel ok. Many thanks.
I dunno.. I found that it had been asked before on here, but no answers. I'll pm the poster to see if he found out. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/gallimages/large_388484_1.jpg
Uploaded to my gallery. Best I could do with my camera. As you can see, the bottom of the tick goes to the outside of the rail. When you look at the rail itself, there is a small (1mm?) lip which would hold the other edge of the strip in place. It looks to me as if the extra section is to hold it firmly in place, but not really sure.
Ok, so just in case anyone has this question. Yes, the half-round stuff fits. But the rail above the windows is 12mm, and the awning rail is 14mm. You need 8.2m each side for the awning rail + whatever extra you want to allow while the strip is returning to size.
