Hi just hoping someone can help we have got a maxol monte carlo 3000 oven in our caravan and last week when we were away we had difficulty opening the oven door as you look at the oven the left hand side of the door feels as if something is catching and stopping the door opening smoothly I have tried it since have got back and it does it even if the oven has not been used. Any advice would be appreciated
If I am right, the door drops down on the Monte-Carlo 3000 model (not open sideways) so it could be a bit of grease that has congealed in the hinge. The best solution to try first is to spray a little WD40 on both hinges which thoroughly will remove any unwanted trapped grease and make the operation much easier too as WD40 is also a cleaning lubricant.
You asked if someone can help so was my advice any use to you?
Is this the first time out in the caravan or is it something that has just happened after using the oven previously without any problem?
The oven door on the Monte Carlo models have a knack of opening them as you have to lift the door then pull down, that's why a little more info may be helpful.
Hi Tango55
thanks for the advice I won't be able to have a look till over the weekend because of work but I'll keep you informed. We have had the caravan for about five years now and the oven door has never given us any trouble it only happened last week when we were on holiday . I have noticed that in the inside of the door there are several screws around the edge so I wondered if I removed them would it expose the hinges or would it disturb the seal for the glass in the door? .
Thanks for providing further information as it's clear now that you have had the caravan several years and the problem has only recently occurred which could be just a loose or missing hinge screw or the hinge is defective and needs replacing.
You will need to gain access to inspect first but if the hinge is worn and requires a replacement it's difficult to obtain spares from companies no longer trading such as Maxol. However, if it turns out that you do need a new pair of hinges then try contacting the company in the link as they will most likely know who took the company over and whether they have any in stock.
Hi Tango55
I had a look at the caravan oven door today and couldn't see anything obvious so I used an artist paint brush and worked some cooking oil around the hinges and it seems to have done the trick so I'll have to see how it goes as I said we have had the van about 5 years and never had any problem with it so I'm hoping it just needed a bit of lubrication
thanks again for your help
Nick
Glad you got it sorted but the problem with oil is that it will congeal over time that's why I suggested using WD40 to thoroughly clean the hinge which is also a freeing lubrication too.
I have to do the same to my domestic oven catch once a year which afterwards you can feel the difference.
Nick f - I'm a little late for this thread but did you sort out your sticking door? I have the same problem with mine and don't really feel like ripping out the cooler and replacing it.
