I have just updated my tow car, and the new one comes complete with tow bar and single wiring, is it a big job to add the extra wiring (grey Plug) to the car.

There an adapter you can get so the grey and white go into one 13 pin plug.

Not sure on cost.

A single socket will be road lighting only.The other socket you will need has the permanent feed which will be required if you van has ATC ,charging for battery and fridge supply and their relevant earths and reversing light feed.If your van has a 13 pin plug then it would be better to fit a 13 pin socket to your car rather than have adaptors

It can be a big job - one important point is that a split relay is needed (to ensure power is "passed through" only when required). Apart from this, the nuisance is finding and splicing into the correct wires in the car wiring harness. Related to this, cars from several years ago were more "tolerant" - nowadays, so many have higher technology bits monitoring and controlling all electrical systems - and just connecting one or two extra bits can cause problems.
Several years ago, I added white plugs a few times - but I wouldn't do it now. I was a suitably competent vehicle electrician then - now, you need a much better knowledge of electronics...

Is socket on car 13pin or 7pin? If 13pin then as stated use adaptor or better get caravan leads wired into 13pin plug.

If its 7pin 12n then you need the other 12s socket. As you have asked on here I guess you have limited electrical knowledge so not really a diy job, any towbar fitter will add extra socket. Probably cost at least £60.

do you realy need it, never used the grey socket, and im on my 7th caravan.
