Hi guys, Unfortunately for me I discovered a small area of the dreaded damp in the offside upper rear corner on our 2006 compass corona, it seems to be worse in the area of where the high level side light and awning rail are so this weekend I intend to remove the awning rail and side light, clean everything up and reseal them back onto the caravan as I need to sort the source of the leak before I start any potential interior work. The question i'd like to ask is what adhesive sealant do i use on the rail, is it the sealant in the cartridges or the rolls of mastic adhesive, i know this will have been asked a billion times before but this is my first caravan repair and i want to tackle it myself rather than pay a fortune out to a dealer.
The rail can be VERY hard to take off if Sikaflex has been used. When you get the rail off you could use the same or IDL99 which is oil based. With this they reckon to renew about every 4 years as it dries out.I have always used a sealant in a cartridge.
I used the stuff on a roll to reseat a window rail and it was going OK until it started to warm up. Then it became a sticky mess. I stuck the roll on the freezer and fitted it quickly before it started to warm up.
thanks fellas, I reckon I'll cover all the bases and buy both, can these sealers be bought from any diy store ie b&q, wickes or is it a caravan accessory shop item.
