Hi everyone and thanks in anticipation....

I have a 2007 registered (2008 model) Pageant Burgundy and after touring for a week in the very wet Peak District discovered a soft patch on the front window sill below the three front windows and in line with the frame between the nearside and middle window.

First thoughts were that this was a leaking window seal but inspection by sticking my head in the front locker (where the gas is) revealed that the water appears to be tracking inside the plastic front of the caravan and then onto the wood beam and under the metal sheeting and into the underside of the sill.

I've now removed the sill fully which was a challenge without removing the entire van front and discovered that there is a significant black patch under the sill where the water has obviously been creeping in for quite some time - so as ive had the van a year now would have been there on purchase (private sale and not detected on recent service damp check!)

Question is where is this water coming from?  I suspected the front window hinge bar - so removed it as heard stories of hairline cracks - cleaned off old mastic - no cracks - replaced with fresh IDL99 non setting and put it back together.

My next thought its the front roof seal - or possibly awning rail seal and its tracking across (or both) but there is no evidence of water ingress at all and the trusty damp meter confirms this!

Ive now had marine ply cut for the replacement sill and obtained correct vinyl direct from Bailey so my question is has anyone else experienced this at all?

I seem to remember having to do some remedial work on our S 7 Burgundy, it was on the metal bracket that goes from the pull handle on my off-side to the wooden strip I think you mention. There was water ingress behind the handle and it ran down the bracket onto the wood. It wasn't a very good fit and also caused hairline cracks on the gel coat at one point so I modified it to fit better.

Thank you for the response. I've checked the handles and resealed them

Also removed the front window hinge bar and cleaned off all sealant and yeuch. Resealed. Refitted.

New sill now fitted. Can washed with lots and lots of water and no sign of any water entry. Guess it's a bit of a mystery so will just keep my eyes peeled on it!

Had scars an engineer look too and he says its not roof seal of it would have taken out the head lining not the awning rail as side wall board would be shot too.

So even he is confused😃

Sounds like you are doing a good job so it will look as good as new. The good thing is that you are aware and looking out for it, therefore it's not likely to get as bad as it was originally. Hopefullly you have now solved the problem, only time will tell.

This is quite true. The wallpaper from Bailey was more expensive than the sealants and marine ply I have now used for the repair!

Quick tip for anyone wanting to wrap a similar piece of paper. Use a spray contact adhesive. I tried ordinary paste. No good. Pva works but takes an eternity to dry😜

With any caravan, anywhere that there is a join it can leak, in most cases it's down to the sealant not being replaced, to replace the sealant on the whole van is a very time consuming job and not all van owners are aware it needs replacing every 3 -5 years depending on what sealant is used, the sealant must be a non setting sealant, but in time the sealant will dry out, shrink and crack, which then lets water in, so any rails or window rubbers are a potential leak.
