Hi we have a Bailey Senator Virginia, we have spent quite a lot of money over the last 12 months on damp repairs.     Thinking we were now clear but we have now found moisture between the back of the wardrobe and the out body it comes from a crack on the roof which the fitters missed my husband repaired it but after putting a damp detection gun by it we find we have moisture there quite bad reading is over 30 any ideas how we can rectify this without it costing a fortune. Thank you anyone

Hi, if you have now sealed the leak the moisture will be trapped inside. had a similar problem when a tree damaged a corner of our roof letting in water. once repaired moisture was trapped. as it was in a top locker I went to caravan centre and purchased an internal vent then cut out a section of the inside wall board with a Stanley knife just through to the foam then covered hole with the vent. it was out of sight in the locker then I put in a moisture absorber an shut locker I was surprised how soon it dried and where the wall was soft it again became firm. I used a vent about size of a 50 pence but you my need one the size of jam jar lid.

Hi I had a crack on my roof, a lot of water got in before I found it, water ran out of my wallboard when I did a mosture test! There where lots of area with well over 50% damp. I poked lots of holes in wall board, mainly in areas that can't be seen then ran a heater fan pointing a area and dehumidifier any time I am at home, ie lots over the weekends and a few hours most nights, I have been doing it for weeks and down to 20% in most areas a couple still in 30%s but coming down (you need to test in new hole with mosture meter as existing holes dry up very fast if that make sense). I have also be trying out using silicone of different colours and filled in a few of the holes and I can't see them after I have filled. Good luck!

I can't see how drilling holes will help, caravan wall is wooden frame with polystyrene foam insulation filling the gaps. Polystyrene foam is closed cell so does not absorb water leaves only the wooden frame & exterior board. If the exterior has been sealed up then eventually the wood will dry out.

If you need to reseal the crack from the outside, try pouring The Captains Creeping Crack Cure into it, its a thin liquid that is designed to penetrate and set to a hardened seal that dries colourless and forms a watertight seal. Halfords used to sell it, or most good boat Chandlers, or E-bay, its also good for sealing around leaking window rubbers on cars and boats, and is a handy thing to carry around in your Caravan's toolkit.
Our dealer used it to form a tempory seal around an awning rail whilst we were waiting for a replacement for our old Lunar, we also managed to stop the back rail joint from leaking perminantly using this stuff.

Opensauce, I wasnt sure if it would work, but I tried to dry out without holes and moisture reading didn't move,I assume I was getting water heated but it had no where to go, maybe in time it would. But I cut a inch square hole in an area I could hide and behind the wallboard the polystyrene wasn't smooth and it looked to me like water vapour would escape if it had a way out through small holes.I have no science to back this up, just what I am seeing! I also removed some of the tape between the wallboards to give a outlet. Based on what I have seen I am sure it has worked and hopefully on time before rot set in. The alternative was over £1000 in repairs!

To Romany Girl and Jam2015 thank you so much we have ordered the Creeping Crack Liquid off Ebay with postage a tube cost us £7.70 big difference from what some of these fitters were quoting and yes Jam2015 we have been and purchased some air vents and intend to cut a small square out in the top of the wardrobe and when dry cover with the airvent.     What an absolutely wonderful site without it we would probably have accepted one of these quotes and paid out a fortune.    Thanks to you all we do so appreciate it

In case you haven't got one, I got this dehumidifier, cheap and small. When I am running the heater it pulls about a qtr of a tea cup in a day.

If you haven't done so already check your floor for damp, that the water that got in dint make it to the floor. mine was damp and I had to lift the rubber covering, only took a couple of hours to dry, so glad I found it as I am sure it would have been rooting by now!

Thanks for that I will certainly check it, picked up a dehumidifier as you say quite cheap but no matter what the price if it does the job, thank you again
