Hi my caravan was recently damage by hailstorm which has damaged the roof and side panels but is still in good working condition. The insurance company will not repair it so have made me an offer of cash or a smaller cash amount and to keep the caravan.I was wondering what use is the caravan in this situation to anybody as it will be unable to be insured .Could anybody give me any information on this situation as I am unsure which offer to take off the insurance .
Pretty much all the vans on our site got written off by the hail damage, they are still insurable without being repaired, try cover4caravans, just tell them it's a cat d and is just superficial / cosmetic, you will get a quote to make you smile.
My caravan was 'written off' by a hailstorm with hail the size of grapes in the Pyrenees 4yrs ago. Its a 1985 Monza that I have never bothered to insure anyway but apart from the peppering there was no real damage & I continue to use it.
So it depends how long you want to keep the caravan, if you are happy with it & want to keep it indefinitely then take the insurer's money & keep the caravan. If you intend to keep the caravan for another 15yrs or more then its money in your pocket. No point in insuring it anyway as no legal requirement, you are insured for 3rd party risk while towing on your car insurance & if you did insure it & it was written of by fire or accident then as dfamaged already payout would be minimal.
If you were intending to tradein in the next couple of yrs then it would be better to take full payout & give insurer the caravan to sell on cheap as a bargain for anybody who wants a caravan to keep for many yrs.
