I have just bought a second hand Truma M1 motor mover which I want to fit to my caravan. I have downloaded the manual and my query relates to the electrical connection.
Do I need to connect a cut out switch and/or fuse between the Mover control unit and the battery?
The simple answer is yes.You will need the isolator if in an emergency one of the relays in the control box weld up and caravan keeps going, as a friend of mine had happen. Also not all makes of control box automatically shut down when not used for a time period. This type will gradually flatten the battery if it is not disconnected. As for fuse if you do not fit one, and a fault develops you could result in a fire.
As above it needs a fuse otherwise a short will have the wiring melting and burning without a fuse. Not something you want in a caravan or anywhere really.
If you dont have a cutout the board will be live 24/7 which they are not designed for and if it does have an auto shutdown you may need to unplug the battery to reset it.
You can get the cutoff's cheap 100Amp one for under £4, you need at least 40amps.
