Hi folks

Been a while since I posted - so long my post count has reset and, well actually it has been a while since I have been camping at all (period of ill-health but hey, happens).

Now back and raring to go and managed to find a nice bargain Cardinal Folding Camper at a good price to replace my old vintage trailer tent (Campavan make). It all works fine but I am still finding my way around practicing set-up. Have checked the winch mechanism which is all good etc, no tears in the canvas - just some minor repairs to do - some of the rubber strips that keep the camper airtight under the beds need replaced, some of the catches are needing replaced too and perhaps some updating to the interior.

The only issue I am having trouble with is the door. Now I knew when I got it I'll be replacing the bottom door panel which is a bit battered/rotten. But the top door is proving a mystery as to how to fit it!

Is it normal to have the door fixed to the camper via a hinged bent piece of aluminium above the door frame? No matter what we do we cannot bend the top of the door into place to sit upright. I can get the two parts of the door to meet Ok but I cannot get that frame into place.

I've checked that the roof is at the right height with the canvas taut but it seems not to be the problem.

Any Cardinal owners perhaps able to point me in the right direction here? Thx.

Type in conway cardinal erection instructions as a google search and you will find details of how to put the door in place.

Thx Nana, but whilst I have a download of the Conway instructions courtesy of Blue Sky Holdings it doesn't show the inside of the camper & door set-up.

Following the instructions is not possible as I cannot find a way to get the top of the door into place and the booklet has no detail on this aspect, which has left me rather stumped!

From memory there should be a fastening each side of the opening at the top to hold the 'bent' metal against the bit of wall that comes down from the roof, this should then hold the door frame in the correct position for the canvas to be slotted into the sides of the door. The fastenings are similar to those that hold it up to the roof when folded.

There are also two pegs on the bottom of the top door frame that fit the frame to the camper (where the canvas meets the bottom part). If I remember correctly, once you have dropped the door from the ceiling, you need to open the door from the frame in order to fit the frame into these holes. Have to admit it was the one thing I struggled a bit with - and I had two of them over the years. Wonderful bit of kit though and I only moved to a caravan because old age and mobility problems dictated it.

Thx for the help and advice folks, been so busy I forgot to check back!

If we ever get a break in this (probably typical) November Rain I shall put into practice the advice.

Agreed Ronni these are very cleverly constructed campers, hope your caravan is allowing you to still enjoy your camping to the full tho. :)
