We have just picked up our new to us first caravan and it has gone into storage on a farm on grass. Can I ask do you leave the hand brake on or not.
We have put the steadies didn't on blocks of wood, hitch look and wheel lock on but we left the handbrake on, should we do this or not.
Any advice please much appreciated.

We don't.
Stops the shoes sticking to the drums. We do put chocks under the wheels.

Some people do, some don't.

Personally I do put the handbrake on but not fully so, just enough to hold the van.
My van is undercover and therefore not exposed to the elements.

If I had it in an open storage facility, I would just chock the wheels, fore and aft and then leave the handbrake off.

I have caravan parked at home and when not in use I just chock the wheels.
I do however pull on the handbrake if really high winds are predicted..just as a backup. The winds funnel down between side of our house and neighbours and blast the van face on. I release again when winds die down.

I leave the caravan handbrake off when laid up for several months in storage to avoid the brake shoe linings ceasing up against the brake drum. This is also the advice given in numerous handbooks too.

Our caravan is on our drive for winter, re-grease hitch, clean and re-grease movers and all underside moving parts (corner steady threads etc., and handrake cables/rods), wheels off, winter wheels on, steadies down and handbrake off then cover on.
I will occasionally pull the handbrake on and off just to keep mechanism free.

Does anyone spray inside the rear light clusters with a WD40 type lube? Thinking it may be an idea.

Noooooooooo Chock the wheels,You may have seized brakes/cable when you go to use it next if left on grass,as the damp will rise during the winter.
