Most vans have those plastic/acrylic windows now, they're quite thick and quite sturdy although they do shatter.
Does anyone know what's the best thing to cut them with? A Stanley knife is worse than useless, a hacksaw takes an age. Any ideas?
You can get a `hook` blade for a Stanley knife which scores the plastic ( you pull it towards you but keep your fingers WELL clear - its savagely sharp!), score on each side then snap.
Use an electric jigsaw with a metal cutting blade. Put masking tape on the acrylic, this will protect it and make any pencil marks easy to see, also put masking tape on the sole plate or base of the jigsaw(again to protect the acrylic). take your` time and don`t force it! if needed you can sand the cut edge with 120 grit sandpaper on a wooden block.hope this helps Happy New Year!
Get yourself a cheap oscilator multi tool no chance of it breaking the glass and will cut double glazed aswell and loads of other stuff a caravan engineers best buddy.
A jigsaw will be just fine for that job if you can get to where you want to cut, just don't force it giving the blade plenty of time to clear and you will be fine.
I've cut loads of the stuff in the past when I was at work and as long as you have a sharp blade and don't push it you will be fine.
I'd thought about a jigsaw, but when I looked at these multi tools you're getting so much more for your money. £45 for the Clarke one seems like a great deal to me.
The multi tool is the way to go you can cut almost anything with them and they are safe as they will not cut your skin.
20 years as a caravan engineer never found anything better FIEN are the best but Clarke and Aldi ones work well enough.
I total agree with you Gerona, if the op does not have a jigsaw a multi tool are the dogs whatsits, I also used the fein many times whilst at work and they are a great bit of kit!
