Hey guys im looking for some help with my hot water system, Last outing in november i had a fault, Leave the water for any longer than 5 hours and there would only be air coming out of any of the taps, Bleed the system and all ok. It works perfect as long as its not left for a long period. Is there anything i can check or should i get a engineer. Any help would be very greatful

Hi Alan, it sounds like there is a problem with the supply non-return valve. Maybe a bit of debris that shouldn't be there is sticking it open slightly, this allows the water to trickle back into the reservoir. Often you can feel the inlet pipe is warm instead of cold. You just need to find out where it is located, usually it's behind the fitting where the water enters the van. Good luck.

Could do with more info like what system you have.
Sounds like the none return valve tho depending on your system.

Could be the thermostat. If faulty the water boils and produces air. Takes a while though hence the delay before you see any out of the taps

Thanks for the advice guys, The van is a 2004 swift with a truma ultra store water system with external water pump. I spoke to a local caravan repair shop and he said about an hours labour £40 plus any parts that i need. Does this sound about right?

You need a spring loaded non return valve, its not a long job to remove the standard type and fit the new one.

Its a blue valve between the drain tap and the inlet, also check that its not draining from the heater, there will be a clear pipe from the top of the heater which goes through the floor to the outside, just leave a container to catch any, if any water.

It'll look similar to the one below but make sure you buy a spring loaded type

Just a thought but have you checked all the outside connections for leaks, things like the O-ring can let air in when the pumps not being used and this will let the water drain back into the aquaroll over time.

A thin smear of vegetable oil or food grade silicon on the O-ring can often help, never use Vaseline or other petroleum products as they can damage rubber O-rings

As others have said there is a nrt valve on the cold water inlet to the tank. A very simple way of testing is simply see if warm water is being pushed back up the inlet. The pipe should feel warm if it is passing.   There is also a vent valve on top of the tank to let air out it is possible that this has stuck so air doesn't vent.

Nb your particular valve might not look like the one pictured in the above post. That is a push fit variant they are also available as horsetails.   If you google leisure spares they have exploded diagrams on their site which should point you in the right direction and give you the part numbers you need to number.
