Hi,
Some advice please, I currently own a trigano silver 310, which I bought in France (superb deal) it doesn't have a leisure battery / charger fitted, would it possible to have one fitted and/or is it easy enough to fit myself?

I have known folk just to have a normal battery charger and still using it for years.

At the moment it will probably have a 12v transformer. In it's place you will need to fit a caravan transformer/charger(£100 approx) & a battery to do a proper job. It's straightforward to fit if you have electrical knowledge & tools. You will need to fit battery securely & so on. Otherwise probably about 3hrs labour at commercial rates.

Another solution would be to buy a good trickle charger which could be used both in caravan or used in garage/shed off season, to keep battery topped up.

Adding a battery then adding 12v lighting etc??

Dont forget batteries give off a flammable gas when charging, so you want it in a sealed box vented outside, or put the battery outside the main area.

A battery will only be required if you want to use caravan on non ehu site or you want to fit a motor mover. Plugged into ehu, caravan should already have a 12v transformer fitted for running lights & water pump.

It is better to do a proper job, ie an installation as in a caravan supplied as standard with a battery, not a halfway house where you fit battery, wire it into towbar for on the move charging & wire it to 12v circuit relying on a separate charger to charge as needed while on ehu site. Thats how some import caravans get wired up & it's a bodge.

Also remember that any equipment you add will then form part of your user payload and batteries are quite heavy!

With a trickle charger or a car battery charger you cant have them charging and taking power off the battery at the same time as this will damage the charger.

That maybe your experience but not mine.

As per post 2.

My van did not come with a 12V transformer or charger or battery, just two terminals in a junction box to connect a leisure battery. It has been charged by a Gunson automatic battery charger for nearly twenty years (when in use in the van), though the battery has been changed a few times due to old age and nothing else.

Possibly the reason it was a superb deal was because it did not have the extras fitted to UK Triganos. Our Silver had a full battery box with charger, water heater, warm air heating (both of which needed 12v)etc., and all the lights were 12v, as well as water pump etc.

So, yes you can easily fit them, though it looks quite expensive to get the proper battery box and charger system. A bigger concern would be linking it into the existing wiring system, which presumably does not have much 12v.

I have 2 power supply and chargers in my odds and sods box at the van doing nowt. I will get round to selling them.Shame sat there doing nowt,
