has anyone had any success in replacing or repairing side locker locks.
The lock works fine but the barrel pulls/falls out quite easily - annoying when the locker door drops open and shoots the lock barrel and keys halfway under the van.
The barrel has a groove near the end that looks as though it should be held by plastic 'fingers' when pushed into the locker door but the fingers are worn/ weak/ missing (you can see this when removing the lock assemble from inside of the door.
I'm thinking of cutting the remainder of the fingers off, fitting a sleeve over the protruding part of the barrel and then fitting an appropriate split ring over the barrel to hold it in place - has anyone else tried this and to what degree of success?
Would fitting a strong elastic band round the fingers not solve your problem. (A section of inner tube from a bike or racing bike is a strong band)
I make dozens of bands this way, including tyre tubes which are handy for multiple uses.
that's a cracking idea oxter. i was a bit worried about a circlip jamming against the lock mechanism but i have a drawer full of o-ring type rubber seals that may just do the job perfectly - i'll post pictures of how i get on.
the 'little fingers' that hold the barrel of the lock in place appear to be part of the molding of the door it self Jeff.
I've tried the rubber band trick suggested by oxter and it seems to work but i forgot to take photo's. I used an 'O' ring of the right size in place of a rubber band though.
If I get chance over the weekend I'll strip it again and do the photos.
