What's the best type of polish to get to try and bring a bit of the whiteness back to its former glory???

Depends what condition the paint is in. Most modern polishes have less restoration properties than they used to as modern cars have clearcoat that just needs a bit of cleaners, fillers and protection.

For paint in medium to good condition I would go with a product like Autoglym Super Resin Polish as mentioned above (there are many other makes that do similar products but you know where you stand with this one).

More importantly, get a proper applicator pad (they are normally foam) as this combines with the polish to generate the restoration effect you are after (otherwise you are just putting on protection that will wear off quickly as the paint has not been properly polished).

If the above doesn't get results you may be needing something a little bit stronger (I would apply with a machine as I find it too hard work to do by hand).

Needless to say, next time you come to clean/polish, it will be easier if you have done a thorough job!

Does the auto gylm get into the paintwork like t-cut does and brings the shine back, getting rid of the dark spots??

Auto glym also do a paint restorer, which maybe the first thing to try, then once happy with the results then aply super resin, I have had some brilliant results using these products. Brought a red Vauxhall, back from pink to bright red!

Where are these? Roof, front/side panels?

Ultimately physical effort will remove most things, but its a question of what else gets removed at the same time.

There are chemicals that can remove these depending on what they are but you have to be VERY careful as they can also eat away at the flexible sealant used to keep the van watertight.

Id watch what your doing with a cutting agent on a caravan as the paint work on it differs from a cars.For a start its thinner and second your likely to take off the glaze and be left with a dull patch.
