Hi all, first post and thanks for having me.

I bought a 1989 lunar moonlight van and it has a gas only cascade 2 water heater which I cannot get to ignite.

Everything is doing as it should except I don't get the fast clicking when I switch on the unit at the wall control. Once I had two/three clicks and the burner lit, but not lit since. I can manually light it and the hot water works.

I suspect the burner module and has anyone any ideas of what I could try before I think about replacing it or getting a maintenance guy to fix it?

Thanks

Have you got a fully charged leisure battery installed?
You will need one for the source of the electronic igniter.

Hi,

Thanks for your fast reply.

So yes, I have a fully charged and maintained leisure battery.

Just to note I have taken the burner module out and checked all electrical connection with a wiggle and gave them a brush with a wire brush, befor I did this the wall control unit wasn't showing the red light even tho the burner wasn't lit. Don't know if this extra information might help.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I have been working on a damp problem but will get around to tackling the water heater once that is complete.

I'll post my pictures of the damp I've found when I've finished and the fix for this water heater issue when I get around to it.

Cheers,

Ear

Yes, I've checked these with a multimeter and very low/no resistance.

Not sure what else to try? I have contacted arc systems to see if they can help.

Hi,

I can't close this post. All I know is that the gas igniter part of the system did not operate as it should. When the system was off for a long period of time I get a couple of sparks when I turn it on for that initial time, but this isn't enough to ignite the gas. Following tries get no sparks. I can ignite the gas manually and the system appears to work as expected.

Gas igniter module problem I think but I don't know how to fix it, any help appreciated :)

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Simon,
I also have a carver cascade water heater, the only things I can think of that would cause this is either the igniter module is faulty, the control unit is faulty or the cable from the control unit to the water heater has got damaged, I had to replace the control unit on mine as it was misbehaving, to me it sounds more likely to be the igniter unit, also after you have lit it manually does it then ignite automatically when the water gets cold?
