made a start on sorting the damp on my caravan over the last 2 days, which basically is everywhere and I have pretty much taken out all of the furniture and half of the roof panels so far! Well I wanted a project and it looks like I've got one! can anyone suggest a way to repair multiple holes in the aluminium roof as the previous pillock to own this van has put loads of over long screws to try secure roof lockers to damp roof and now there are loads of tiny holes in the aluminium roof panel! I am also going to have to replace quite a few battens and woodwork which has rotted, do I have to use hardwood, which is expensive and hard to source or is there another way? I'd post some pictures but I cant see how to do it?
For tiny holes in the aluminium, clean and abrade the inner surface, then a thin smear of Araldite will sort it. Very quick and very permanent.
You battens were made with the cheapest wood available, so don`t go overboard. I used to use treated timber just because it was more rot resistant (always assumed I would keep the van forever and didn`t want to do the job again) and almost as cheap.
battens that they use for roofing, are treated and fire proofed, if they are the right size you need. Just cant remember what size they come in but well worth it in your case,
sadly after another day of ripping out panelling and furniture to establish the extent of the rot I've come to the conclusion its beyond economic repair! anyone know how to scrap a caravan?
after a day of ripping out even more panels to see how bad the rot is I have sadly had to admit defeat and decide its beyond economic repair! How do you scrap a caravan?
wife was already p**sed off with me filling the garage with parts of rotting caravan, don't think shed be very happy with me chopping it up the driveway!
Cut it about half way down, put the top into the bottom and tow it to the scrappies☺️ Oh and fill it wilts all the guff from the garage, happy other half 😌
