Hi. I am new to caravaning but enjoyed my first trip last week. Borrowed my girlfriends Dad's Coachman van but couldn't get the refrigerator to work. The ignitor works as I can see it sparking through the spyglass but it will not light. Is there a manual or service book that will help me to repair and light the refrigerator. Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi Latty and welcome!
It might not need repair. Firstly are you sure that the gas is turned on in the front locker and at the fridge isolation valve. The latter is normally tucked away in a cupboard somewhere.
Next make sure that you have got some gas by igniting one of the hob burners. Assuming that lights, turn it off.
Now, to the fridge. If it hasn't been used on gas for a little while you will have a pipe full of air and the gas will take quite a long while to reach the fridge. So before you start stripping it down keep trying to light it. You may need to keep going for 3/4 minutes..
If that doesn't work then, yes, you may have a problem and someone will soon be on here with the answer.
Good luck, DaveS1
Thanks DaveS1. Yeah both gas valves were on. We tried lighting it a few times over our stay all for around 5 mins each time making me think that there may be a blockage somewhere. I will keep trying but any help with maintenance is gratefully received.
The instructions and manual are on the Electrolux website , Latty.
Search for "rm 2260" and you'll get it
The right hand side of page 3 tells you how to light it. Page 5 gives some clues if it won't light
Good luck, DaveS1
Might be a spider nesting in the burner. They seem to love it there.
You can access the burner from the lower exterior grill, bit tricky but achievable. You'll need a thin no.1 pozidrive screwdriver, preferably magnetic, to get at the three screws that attach the shield around the burner area. Right hand bottom side.
Had a similar problem on two previous caravans. One turned out to be crap in the burner namely a small grubber screw that at some point had I am guessing been dropped down the flue somehow and was sat in the burner. Removed the screw and hey presto it lit first time!
The second time turned out to be that the fridge had moved slightly and the control knob was not fully depressing when being pushed in. Try removing the knob and pushing in the spindle and see if that makes any difference. It can be cured by putting some folded up tin foil in the back of the knob before re-attaching to give a couple of mm more movement.
Get somebody to smell the outside vents to see if there is a gas smell after you have been attempting to ignite it. With a cruddy burner you should still smell gas, but with a gas supply problem I would imagine you won't.
